According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Chatchai Sirilai, Manager of the Bank for Agriculture and Agricultural Cooperatives (BAAC), revealed that the earthquake in the Republic of the Union of Myanmar on March 28 caused tremors in many areas of Thailand, including the northern region, Bangkok and its vicinity, which caused damage to residences, properties and agricultural areas, directly affecting the lives and occupations of farmers. Therefore, in order to provide urgent assistance and relief to the affected people, BAAC has organized an emergency loan project with a credit limit of 50,000 baht per person, 0% interest rate for the first 6 months, and MRR interest rate for the 7th month (currently MRR is 6.725%), and a loan project to restore and develop the quality of life with a credit limit of 500,000 baht per person, MRR interest rate minus 2% per year, with a total credit limit of 20 billion baht to support customers to access low-interest funds to restore damages caused by natural disasters.
These funds can be used to pay for improvements or repairs to homes, farm buildings, or agricultural machinery, as well as to encourage farmer customers to reduce their production cost burden and have working capital in case of emergencies during the rehabilitation until they can return to their occupations and continue their normal businesses with strength.
In addition, to ensure the safety of the premises for driving the bank’s mission and providing services to agricultural customers, BAAC has inspected the building structure and related systems in every area so that the bank’s system can provide continuous and efficient services to customers, making Thailand’s economic system strong and stable.
