For tourist attractions, BTS would like to please families who are religious and want to add good fortune to their l
ives and find a place to relax and chill by traveling with the BTS on this Mother’s Day. Let’s start with the first place, ‘Wat That Thong,’ an ancient temple in Bangkok that is over 80 years old. The ordination hall enshrines ‘Phra Sappanyu,’ a principal Buddha image in the Mara-Vijaya attitude, built in 1952, and ‘Phra Phuttha Chinnarat,’ a Buddha image in the ordination hall from the U Thong period. Inside the temple, there is the 84th Anniversary Maha Chedi, built in 2010 to honor His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej and Her Royal Highness Princess Galyani Vadhana. It enshrines the relics of the Lord Buddha and Buddha images from around the world. Passengers can get off at Ekkamai Station (E7), Exit 3, and walk no more than 200 meters to enter the temple grounds.
The next place is Wat Yannawa, an old temple on Charoen Krung Road. The highlight is the ‘Yannawa Sampao Chedi’ built during the reign of King Rama III. It is a replica of a real junk and is the only one of its kind in Thailand. Inside the junk,
there are relics of the Lord Buddha for people to pay homage to for good fortune. There is also a white jade Guanyin Bodhisattva in three postures: wisdom, kindness, and peace. Passengers can get off at Saphan Taksin Station (S6), Exit 4, and walk for about 270 meters to the temple. Or stop by ‘Save One Go Market’, which has both savory and sweet food and delicious drinks at reasonable prices. It is open from 4:00 p.m. to midnight. Passengers can get off at Kapo Intersection Station (N23), Exit 4, and walk for about 200 meters to the market area.
