Bangkok: The Cabinet has approved a significant adjustment in compensation wages for state enterprise employees, focusing on newly hired individuals with bachelor’s degrees. This adjustment will ensure a minimum salary of no less than 18,150 baht, effective from May 1, 2025.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Karom Polpornklang, the deputy government spokesman, announced that the Cabinet’s decision addresses the need to adjust compensation for employees affected by the initial wage rate modification. The decision aligns with the resolution of the State Enterprise Labor Relations Committee (SLA), which was made on September 5, 2024. The adjustment will consider guidelines certified by the Civil Service Commission, tailored to fit each organization’s specific needs.
Mr. Karom stated that the Ministry of Labor proposed the compensation adjustment, recommending a stepwise increase. The proposal includes raising the bachelor’s degree holders’ salary to no less than 16,500 baht from May 1, 2024, and further to no less than 18,150 baht from May 1, 2025. It ensures that the salary rate, including compensation, must not be less than that of newly hired employees. The financial burden of this adjustment will be managed within each state enterprise’s budget, without causing additional strain on the national budget.
The first phase of the compensation adjustment, effective from May 1, 2024, will impact 58,655 state enterprise employees, with 61,164 employees having their compensation adjusted. This will require state enterprises to allocate 1,159 million baht for the adjustments. Mr. Karom confirmed that the Ministry of Labor is acting in compliance with Section 7 and Section 27 of the State Fiscal Discipline Act B.E. 2561.
