Customs Department Seizes Methamphetamine Worth Over 100 Million Baht Intended for Export to Australia


Bangkok: The Customs Department seized 33.73 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine, commonly known as ice, which was intended for export to Australia. The drugs were concealed within a metal lathe and valued at over 100 million baht.



According to Thai News Agency, Mrs. Nanthita Sirikupt, an advisor on customs control system development, revealed the results of the inspection. The inspection uncovered a metal lathe containing methamphetamine, weighing 33.73 kilograms including the packaging, with a market value exceeding 100 million baht. This incident constitutes an offense involving the attempted export of Category 1 narcotics, specifically methamphetamine, from the Kingdom without permission. Additionally, it involves possession of Category 1 narcotics without authorization, an act intended for trade and contributing to the spread among the public, in violation of the Narcotics Code.



The Customs Control System Development Consultant highlighted that the Customs Department remains vigilant in preventing and suppressing drug smuggling and precursor trafficking. The department also actively seizes other goods that violate customs and related laws, aligning with the government’s policy to prioritize public health and national security. From October 1, 2024, to May 30, 2025, the Customs Department reported 156 drug-related arrests, with a total value of 922.31 million baht.
