Bangkok: The Department of Highways is conducting a final inspection of the M82 motorway between the Bang Khun Thian and Ekkachai interchanges in preparation for its trial run scheduled to commence at 4:00 PM on October 22.
According to Thai News Agency, the inspection is a collaborative effort involving the Department of Highways and the Engineering Institute of Thailand under Royal Patronage. Director-General Piyapong Jiwattanakulpaisan revealed that additional measures have been agreed upon during discussions, such as increased public relations efforts and the installation of new signage. The signs will prohibit motorcycles, set speed limits of 80 km/h for passenger cars, and 65 km/h for trucks and buses. A short video explaining the motorway’s entrance and exit points will also be released on radio and online platforms to assist travelers.
Director-General Jiwattanakulpaisan emphasized that lighting systems and speed limit signs are being rapidly installed to ensure road safety before the trial begins. The Phanthai Norasing Toll Plaza at Km. 16, which functions as a U-turn bridge and an on- and off-ramp for the expressway, has undergone safety inspections to ensure confidence and safety. Coordination with the Highway Police is planned to enforce laws related to vehicle speed and traffic monitoring.
Structural expert Associate Professor Anek Siriphanichkorn from the Department of Highways assessed the site’s structural readiness, declaring the motorway section structurally sound and compliant with engineering standards. He recommended that clear signage be installed to guide road users and prevent confusion.
The Department of Highways urges all road users to adhere strictly to the regulations during the trial period. The speed limits set are 80 km/h for cars and 65 km/h for trucks and buses to ensure everyone’s safety.
