Nang Rong: A woman driving from Surin to Bangkok collided with a herd of cows crossing the road, resulting in the death of four animals. The incident left the vehicle extensively damaged, though the driver, Ms. Surattikarn, and her passengers escaped without significant injuries.
According to Thai News Agency, the accident occurred on Highway 24, Chokchai-Det Udom, as Ms. Surattikarn, aged 26, was traveling with two relatives at approximately 3:00 a.m. The poorly lit road provided little warning when approximately ten cows suddenly ran across the path of the sedan. Ms. Surattikarn was unable to brake in time, and the collision resulted in the death of four cows, while the remaining animals fled into nearby woods.
Ms. Surattikarn, who sustained a bruise on her head, expressed her relief that all occupants of the car were wearing seatbelts and that the airbags had deployed, preventing serious injuries. She emphasized the importance of animal owners ensuring their livestock is securely penned, particularly at night, to prevent such incidents. The repair costs for her severely damaged vehicle are estimated to be in the hundreds of thousands.
Police investigations revealed that the deceased cows included three females and one male, aged between 1 and 3 years. With the owner of the livestock yet to come forward, local residents have requested to butcher the animals and sell the meat to contribute towards the car repair expenses. Authorities are actively working to identify the owner of the cows to hold them accountable and ensure appropriate legal action is taken.
