DSI urgently discusses making the Icon case a special case

DSI holds urgent meeting to bring The Icon case into special case, stressing that this case has suspects under control, must be processed quickly.

After the Central Investigation Bureau handed over the case file of The Icon, which has tens of thousands of victims and damages worth billions of baht, to the DSI for consideration of accepting it as a special case, this morning, Pol. Lt. Col. Yuthana Phraedam, acting director-general of the Department of Special Investigation, ordered the case screening committee to urgently hold a meeting to clarify whether it will be on the attached list, whether the director-general can accept it immediately, or whether it must be submitted to the special case committee to request that it be counted as a special case, chaired by Pol. Lt. Wisanu Chimtrakul, deputy director-general of the DSI, who invited the police officers handling the The Icon case to clarify the case file, to which Pol. Maj. Gen. Montree Tessakan, commander of the Crime Suppression Division, personally trav
eled.

Pol. Lt. Col. Woranan Srilam, Director of the Informal Financial Business Division, said before the meeting that after the police gradually handed over the case files of The Icon to the DSI, they had set up a team to initially inspect and continue to send them in. Since it was an urgent case and society was following, they invited a meeting and invited police representatives to explain the consideration of which legal channels would be used to accept it as a special case. If it was a special case, there would be a process to inspect and record the case files, plan with the police, and include details that the police had already processed. However, the DSI and the police have the same investigative power, transferring the power to continue the investigation. In this case, the suspects are under control and must be expedited. Therefore, the consideration of accepting it as a special case must be expedited. There are a large number of cases spread across the country. The DSI is already working with the po
lice on The Icon case, only changing the host because the DSI law has more channels for integration than the normal Criminal Procedure Code. As for the money laundering offense, the DSI has accepted it as a special case because it is a channel to obtain assets to compensate the victims. As for the case screening meeting, the results will be clear after the meeting.

The reporter reported that the meeting to consider and screen the case of The Icon to accept as a special case began at 9:30 a.m. The committee will consider evidence and facts that the police have processed and explained as information. The Informal Financial Business Division will explain the law and the attached list that the Director-General will have the authority to accept as a special case immediately. However, if it does not meet the criteria, it must be summarized and submitted for consideration by the Special Case Board, chaired by Mr. Phumtham Wechayachai, Deputy Prime Minister in charge of the DSI, to request a board resolution to acce
pt as a special case. -119- Thai News Agency
