Interior Minister Orders Urgent Support for Earthquake Victims; MEA Stands Ready with 24-Hour Emergency Power

Bangkok: The Interior Minister has mandated immediate and comprehensive assistance for those impacted by the recent earthquake with its epicenter in Myanmar, which has also affected parts of Thailand. This directive includes a coordinated effort among all subordinate agencies to provide aid to victims. A critical part of this response involves the Metropolitan Electricity Authority (MEA), which has been instructed to ensure that emergency electrical services are available around the clock.

According to Thai News Agency, the Ministry of Interior has emphasized the importance of a systematic integration of resources and efforts. The MEA has been tasked with preparing and managing the electrical systems to ensure continuous power supply. This includes installing electric lights to aid the operations of rescue units and other officials working in the affected areas.

The MEA has already taken proactive steps in response to the situation, particularly in the Chatuchak District, where building collapses have occurred. A team of engineers has been dispatched to inspect the electrical infrastructure, install necessary lighting fixtures, provide backup generators, and adjust the power supply to meet the urgent needs. These measures are critical to ensure that rescue operations can be conducted safely and efficiently.

In addition to these immediate actions, the MEA continues to monitor the earthquake’s aftermath closely. The authority is conducting regular inspections to assess the stability of the power grid, ensuring that the power supply remains steady across the service area. Preparedness for additional assistance is also in place should the situation escalate further.

The MEA has extended its deepest condolences to the families of those who have lost their lives and expressed solidarity with all affected by this disaster. The authority remains committed to supporting the victims and aiding them in overcoming the crisis swiftly.
