Makkasan: All 20 KIHA 40 and 48 air-conditioned diesel railcars have returned to the Makkasan factory. The State Railway of Thailand has successfully brought back these railcars to initiate comprehensive renovations aimed at enhancing travel quality for commuters. The upgrades are set to make travel more convenient, safe, and aligned with modern lifestyles.
According to Thai News Agency, the refurbishment will include the installation of more comfortable artificial leather seats and the replacement of existing toilets with Western-style facilities. These improvements are designed to support suburban travel, offering both aesthetic appeal and practicality. The project aims to prepare the first 4-6 cars for service by the end of this year, with a gradual rollout to complete the full fleet of 20 cars. This initiative is part of efforts to accommodate the rising number of passengers and promote sustainable rail travel.
