This major badminton tournament, held at the Nimibutr Building, National Stadium, offered a total prize pool exceeding 475,000 US dollars, equivalent to approximately 16,150,000 baht, and was a key event for competitors seeking to gather points for the BWF World Tour Super 500 ranking.
According to Thai News Agency, the men’s singles final saw Kunlavut Vitidsarn, the tournament’s top seed and world number 2, face off against Denmark’s Anders Antonsen, the second seed and world number 3. The match was a tightly contested battle, thrilling a stadium full of spectators. In the first game, Vitidsarn rebounded from an early deficit to clinch a 21-16 victory. The second game remained competitive, with Antonsen gaining an advantage in the middle but eventually securing a 21-17 win, forcing a decisive third game. Vitidsarn dominated the final game, winning 21-9, thus securing his second Thailand Open title and his third championship of the year.
In the women’s singles final, Pornpawee Chochuwong, the top seed and world number 6, faced Chen Yufei, the second seed and world number 8 from China. Historically, Yufei had won 13 out of their 14 previous encounters. Yufei continued her dominance, winning the first game 21-16 with confidence. She maintained her superiority in the second game, triumphing 21-12, resulting in a 2-0 victory. This marked Yufei’s third championship win of the year, while Chochuwong settled for the runner-up position.
