Bangkok: MEA is set to advance the removal of electric poles in the middle of next year to enhance the city’s cityscape. MEA, or the Metropolitan Electricity Authority, in collaboration with partner agencies, has successfully completed the removal of communication cables from electric poles along Wireless Road, stretching from Phloen Chit Intersection to Rama IV Road, a distance of 2.1 kilometers. This initiative aims to improve the area’s orderliness and safety, aligning with broader efforts to upgrade Bangkok’s cityscape and optimize public space utilization in the economic center.
According to Thai News Agency, Wireless Road is part of a larger project to transition electric cables underground. The project is currently preparing to deliver electricity from the underground power system to the public by mid-2026. Following this transition, all electric poles will be removed. Telecommunications operators have already completed the process of relocating communication cables underground, having collaborated to remove these cables from the electric poles on both sides of Wireless Road, a task that concluded this past February.
