The EGAT Governor said that the installation of the No. 5 solar power generation system (solar cells) at Wat Mahathat Wachiramongkol (Wat Bang Thong), Krabi Province, with a production capacity of 72 kilowatts, is one of the 10 projects to continue the royal intentions that the Ministry of Energy and EGAT have organized to honor His Majesty the King on the occasion of His Majesty the King’s 6th cycle birthday anniversary on July 28, 2024, to bring environmentally friendly electric power innovations to support Buddhist activities and the practices of monks in Wat Mahathat Wachiramongkol, such as providing electricity for the Phra Mahathat Chedi in honor of His Majesty the King’s 50th anniversary, Maha Vajiralongkorn, the monks’ school building, and the sala, in line with the royal intention to “continue, preserve, and develop”.

The electricity generation system from solar cells No. 5 with a production capacity of 72 kilowatts consists
of 120 solar panels of 600 watts with 2 sets of inverters. It can control and manage energy usage data via an application. It is expected that electricity generation from solar cells No. 5 will help Wat Mahathat Wachiramongkol save more than 110,000 units of electricity per year or reduce electricity costs by approximately 550,000 baht per year. It also helps reduce carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 57 tons per year.

Wat Mahathat Wachiramongkol is considered an important temple in Krabi Province, which received the temple’s name from His Majesty the King, along with the invitation to invite the abbreviation of His Majesty’s name, M.W.K., to be enshrined on the front gable of the ordination hall.
