Prime Minister Promotes Thai Culture with Fish-Patterned Pants


Bangkok: The Prime Minister of Thailand donned pants featuring a Kanchanaburi fish pattern at a significant meeting to promote the country’s soft power. The attire choice was part of a broader initiative to encourage the public to embrace and promote traditional provincial patterns, especially during cultural events like Songkran. The Prime Minister urged all stakeholders to collaborate in fostering a positive image of Thailand to foreigners.



According to Thai News Agency, the meeting was chaired by Ms. Paethongtarn Shinawatra, Prime Minister, and attended by several key figures including Mr. Surawong Thienthong, Minister of Tourism and Sports, and Mr. Somsak Thepsuthin, Minister of Public Health. The gathering marked the 1/2568 National Soft Power Strategy Committee meeting and included an array of ministers and deputies such as Mr. Pichai Naripthaphan, Minister of Commerce, and Ms. Sudawan Wangsuphakijkosol, Minister of Culture, among others.



At the meeting, Ms. Paethongtarn emphasized the importance of promoting provincial patterns, asking participants if they wore traditional pants from their own provinces. Highlighting the diversity and beauty of these patterns, she encouraged participants to showcase local designs as a means to enhance the country’s soft power. The Prime Minister shared her intention to wear provincial pants during Songkran and urged support for local craftsmanship, emphasizing the importance of showcasing each province’s unique identity.



The Prime Minister expressed gratitude for the efforts made the previous year in advancing Thai soft power through tourism and other avenues. She acknowledged the contributions of both public and private sectors in achieving significant recognition and appreciation from foreigners. Encouraging continued cooperation, she called on all parties to further elevate Thailand’s soft power on the global stage.
