Prime Minister Unfazed by Opposition’s Censure Debate, Says Somkid

Bangkok: “Somkid” insists the Prime Minister is not afraid of the opposition’s censure debate, refutes “deal for the country” using fancy words but not edible, says he knows all the exam questions and the opposition leaked them themselves.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Somkid Cheukong, Deputy Secretary-General to the Prime Minister for Political Affairs, addressed the opposition party’s topic for the no-confidence debate, labeled as the ‘Country Exchange Deal’. He criticized it as a superficial concept lacking substance, urging the opposition to engage in discussions grounded in reality. Mr. Somkid expressed confidence in foreseeing the opposition’s agenda, highlighting topics such as the black-chinned tilapia, labor issues, the Uighurs, MOU 44, and the Prime Minister’s leadership. He claimed that the opposition had inadvertently disclosed their talking points, suggesting that their strategy was self-revealed.

Mr. Somkid dismissed claims of leaked debate topics, asserting that the opposition had openly shared their intended discussions. He encouraged the opposition to focus on the parliamentary debate rather than external distractions. In response to comments from Ms. Pannika Wanich, who suggested the Prime Minister might be caught off guard by undisclosed issues, Mr. Somkid reassured that the Prime Minister was prepared to address all reasonable concerns raised during the debate.

Mr. Somkid further emphasized that the Prime Minister’s instruction for members to assist was a routine precaution for the debate, not a sign of worry. He affirmed that the relevant ministries had compiled information for the Prime Minister’s use. While acknowledging the Prime Minister’s initial nervousness due to it being his first no-confidence debate, Mr. Somkid reiterated that there was no cause for concern.
