Ramkhamhaeng University orders investigation into Samart’s case, sending someone to take the test instead

The acting president of Ramkhamhaeng University has ordered a revision of the issue of ‘Sama-art’ sending someone to take the exam instead of him for the doctoral degree program. He plans to bring the issue to the executive meeting next Wednesday (6 Nov). If found guilty, the maximum punishment is expulsion and the loss of student status.

In the case of Mr. Samart Jenchaijitwanich, a member of the Palang Pracharath Party, as a PhD student in the Faculty of Political Science, Ramkhamhaeng University, he was accused of sending someone to study and take the English exam instead on March 6-7, 2021, and Ramkhamhaeng University ordered the termination of the investigation results during the time when Mr. Suebpong Prab-yai was the university president.

The latest, Assistant Professor Wuttisak Lapcharoenthap, Acting President of Ramkhamhaeng University, revealed to Thai News Agency that this case actually occurred during his time as president. After learning from the Language Institute that there had been a complai
nt about this matter, a fact-finding committee was set up. The investigation concluded that there was evidence, and that a police officer with the rank of Pol. Lt. Col. was indeed sent to study and take the exam in the English program at the doctoral level instead. After he left the position of president, a new president came to investigate this matter and ordered the investigation to be terminated. He still does not know the reason for the termination. When he heard the news about this matter, he was uncomfortable. He ordered the university’s legal department to review the case files and evidence again and will urgently bring this matter to the executive meeting next Wednesday (November 6) for consideration and further action.

Meanwhile, from the investigation of Mr. Samart’s status after the order to stop the investigation, he was not punished in any way, except for being stripped of the right to study the said subject. He has now returned to study for his doctorate and is almost finished.

For the punishm
ent measures in the case of cheating in the exam, if it happens at the bachelor’s degree level, the student will be suspended for 2 semesters. But in the case of sending someone to take the exam instead, which has happened in the past in the case of Mr. Santi Promphat, the university punished by expulsion, dismissed from being a student, and prosecuted the person who took the exam instead. However, we still have to wait for the results of the executive meeting. But if the investigation finds that Mr. Samart has actually committed an offense, he will be punished in the same way. He emphasized that in the case of Mr. Samart, he remembered that when he was in the position, he wrote a letter to the superior of the police officer who took the exam instead to inform him that his subordinate did this, which was not right. He asked the superior to consider taking further action. – Thai News Agency
