Student Loan Fund Delays Salary Deduction of 3,000 Baht for Borrowers in Arrears

Bangkok: The Student Loan Fund (SLF) has announced a postponement of the planned additional 3,000 baht salary deduction for borrowers in arrears, originally set to commence in June 2025. This delay aims to provide borrowers with the opportunity to settle their outstanding debts independently or engage in a debt restructuring agreement with the fund.

According to Thai News Agency, Dr. Nantawan Wongkajornkitti, Manager of the Student Loan Fund, emphasized that this decision will allow borrowers to manage their repayments through the fund’s designated channels or by entering into debt restructuring contracts. Currently, there are over 401,248 borrowers who have completed online debt restructuring agreements, and 261,462 have done so on paper, making a total of 662,710 accounts. Borrowers taking advantage of this opportunity will benefit from reduced monthly repayments, immediate release of guarantors, and an extended repayment period of up to 15 years. The final payment must be made by the time borrowers reach 65 years of age, at which point a 100% discount on all outstanding late fees will be provided by the Student Loan Fund.

The SLF’s decision to delay the additional 3,000 baht deduction from salaries starting June 2025 underscores the importance of enabling borrowers to repay their loans, thereby contributing to a revolving fund that supports educational opportunities for future generations.
