According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Suchart Chomklin, Deputy Minister of Commerce and Deputy Leader of the Ruam Thai Sang Chart Party, discussed the case involving sending lawyers to sue Bangkok MP Ms. Rakchanok Srinok and Chonburi MP of the Prachachon Party Mr. Sahasawat Khumkhong on charges of defamation. The accusation pertains to their alleged involvement in the use of the investment budget to purchase the Skyy9 building during his tenure as the Minister of Labor. Suchart confirmed his legal team has been assigned to file a lawsuit, which will differ in format for each case and time. He seeks 50 million baht in damages for defamation, emphasizing that the lawsuit is more about protecting his and his family’s honor and dignity rather than the monetary aspect. He intends to file a complaint with the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) following a similar precedent set by former Minister of Transport Mr. Saksayam Chidchob.
Mr. Suchart emphasized the importance of truthfulness in public discourse, especially for public figures like ministers and MPs. He noted that such individuals must be open to investigation within the correct procedural framework. He addressed rumors that Ms. Rakchanok sought information from Ms. Siriwan Prasartsattru of the Ruam Thai Sang Chart Party, stating that Ms. Siriwan denied any such conversation. Suchart urged politicians to set an example for the next generation with truthful and accurate information.
When asked if the lawsuit aimed to silence dissent, Mr. Suchart asserted the necessity of the judicial system as a refuge for the innocent. He maintained that those making baseless accusations without evidence should face consequences. Regarding the possibility of accepting an apology, Suchart expressed that the situation is beyond remedy, highlighting societal expectations for accountability and the existence of other cases involving the accused. He contrasted himself with the accused, asserting a strong belief in his innocence.
