Transport Ministry orders all agencies to go to flood relief areas in Chiang Mai

Mr. Suriya continued that in addition, the Ministry of Transport has directed all subordinate agencies to bring resources, tools and machinery into flood-stricken areas in Chiang Mai Province for the safety of every household, including urgently solving the problem of landslides obstructing travel on the roads and urgently solving the problem of roads or bridges that have been damaged by floodwaters in order to maintain transportation in the area so that food, drinking water and necessary medical supplies can be transported to the flood-stricken people immediately.

The Disaster Command Center of the Ministry of Transport reported that the Ministry of Transport has now integrated with several agencies, such as the Ministry of Interior and the Royal Thai Army, to help the people to be safe in life and property, including having all agencies continuously report their operations to the Command Center until the situation improves.

While the Department of Rural Roads reported the latest situat
ion that from the new round of flooding on Highway No. 3029, Somphot 700 Years Road (Central Ring Road), officers were sent to patrol and monitor the flood immediately. It was found that there was flooding on the road surface in all 3 lanes on both sides, on the left and right sides. In the traffic lanes near the median, the water level rose by about 25 cm. The water level was stable, starting from km. 19+800 – 20+300. Cars could not pass through. The Rural Roads Department closed both sides of the road. At this time, the department has installed flood warning signs and has officers to look after the public along the route.

The Marine Department (MD) has monitored the situation, predicted the water volume, and prepared to help those affected immediately. Meanwhile, the Department of Highways reported that the area under the supervision of the Department of Highways in Chiang Mai is flooded on Highway 108 Chiang Mai – Hang Dong, between km. 13+450 – 13+700 on the right and left sides of the road because water
from Huai Mae Tha Chang overflowed the riverbank and flooded the surrounding area and overflowed onto the road surface to a height of 0.50 meters, including Highway 1141, Highway 11, and Highway 107. Currently, both inbound and outbound traffic is closed, with officers on duty to look after the public 24 hours a day until the situation improves.
