The Ministry of Digital Economy and Society (DES) plans to upgrade the Technology Crime Suppression Division (TCSD) into a bureau, with its manpower increased by 2,000 over the next two years, to cope with rising cybercrime cases.
DES Minister Chaiwut Thanakamanusorn said today(Monday) that the ministry is in the process of transferring police from the Royal Thai Police to the TCSD for training.
He advised members of the public not to give away their personal information easily to strangers, such as their user names or passwords, and to exercise extreme caution before subscribing to unknown applications or web sites.
He also advised the public not to fall prey to online scammers, who claim to be officials asking for their personal information or who contact them regarding financial transactions.
He said that, in practice, officials do not ask people involved in financial transactions to call them back.
While the DES Ministry has its own cyber police force, the Royal Thai Police also has its own cyber division, called the Cyber Crime Investigation Bureau (CCIB).
