Bangkok: The SEA Games organizers are preparing a plan to address the possible relocation of the stadium in Songkhla Province due to ongoing flood concerns. They are closely monitoring the flood situation to determine if adjustments to the competition venue are necessary.
According to Thai News Agency, Chalitrat Chantrubeksa, Deputy Secretary-General of the National Olympic Committee of Thailand, shared updates on the 33rd SEA Games, which are set to be hosted in Bangkok, Chonburi, and Songkhla. In light of the flooding in Songkhla, organizers are evaluating the situation and developing a response plan to potentially move competition venues to Bangkok and Chonburi if required.
Dr. Kongsak Yodmanee, Governor of the Sports Authority of Thailand, mentioned that the SEA Games situation is under close observation and assessment. He affirmed that Songkhla Province would still host the Games if conditions improve, with the possibility of relocating venues but keeping them within Songkhla. He expressed hope that the SEA Games would help stimulate the economy and aid in the revival of Songkhla Province post-crisis.
Songkhla is slated to host ten sports, offering 109 gold medals in events such as boxing, pencak silat, men's football, chess, judo, kabaddi, karate, wrestling, petanque, and wushu. Currently, boxing has been relocated from the main southern city stadium to the Prince of Songkla University International Convention Center.
Tickets for the opening ceremony on December 9th and the initial football match on December 3rd will be available for free registration today at 2:00 PM via the official SEA Games website, www.seagames2025.org.
The opening ceremony at Rajamangala National Stadium is expected to draw over 20,000 attendees. The event will include the torch lighting ceremony, with 10,000 seats allocated for the public, 5,000 for students, the underprivileged, and the general public, and approximately 5,000 for VIP guests, event organizers, and volunteers.
