Trump Announces Ceasefire Agreement Between Thailand and Cambodia

Washington: U.S. President Donald Trump claimed that Thailand and Cambodia have agreed to a "total ceasefire" effective Friday, December 12, following a phone call with the leaders of both countries in an attempt to salvage a ceasefire he brokered earlier this year, after clashes between Thailand and Cambodia entered their fifth day. President Trump posted on his Truth Social platform that he had spoken with Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul and Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet about the renewed outbreak of the long-running war, and that both sides had agreed to end the conflict.

According to Thai News Agency, since Monday, December 8, Cambodia and Thailand have fired rockets and artillery at various points along their 817-kilometer disputed border, in one of the most intense clashes since a five-day confrontation in July. Mr. Trump's message on TruthSocial differs from Mr. Anutin's from several hours earlier, which stated that the phone call with Mr. Trump "went well" but did not mention any agreement between Thailand and Cambodia to stop the fighting.
