Bangkok: The director of the information center emphasized that they did not violate sovereignty and did not fire on historical sites.
According to Thai News Agency, the director of the Thai-Cambodian Situation Information Center released a Q and A session between Thailand and Cambodia, reiterating that they will not violate sovereignty, will not fire on historical sites, and will continue to pursue peaceful solutions while reducing misinformation surrounding the border.
On January 15, 2026, Air Chief Marshal Praphas Sonjaidee, Assistant Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Thai Air Force and Director of the Joint Information Center on the Thailand-Cambodia Situation, revealed that amidst the tense situation along the Thai-Cambodian border, which is being closely watched both domestically and internationally, Thai security agencies have compiled a Q and A document covering over 30 key issues. This document aims to clarify allegations, news reports, and ongoing information operations, emphasizing the important principles of adhering to verifiable facts, using force only as necessary, and avoiding harm to civilians or historical sites.
On sensitive issues, such as allegations that Thailand fired shots at Preah Viharn temple or violated Cambodian sovereignty, Thailand firmly affirms that it did not intend to destroy cultural sites, violate the territory of its neighboring country, and that all actions taken were based on the highest principle of responsibility. Thailand is open to scrutiny through appropriate mechanisms, emphasizing communication based on chronological order and evidence, rather than making exaggerated claims.
Regarding humanitarian and human rights issues, Thailand clarified that the safety of its people is paramount. It does not want to see displaced persons, refugees, or shortages of food, medicine, and education. Thailand supports transparent humanitarian aid that is not misused and that does not exacerbate tensions in border areas.
Meanwhile, Thailand reiterated its readiness in the negotiation mechanisms, including border working group meetings, the consideration of observers, and the management of forces in the area, adhering to the principle of a gradual approach, avoiding rushing to prevent creating loopholes and risks. Thailand also affirmed its sincerity in the dialogue, aiming to reduce confrontation and build long-term trust between the two countries.
In the political and information operations dimension, Thailand warns against distinguishing between facts and political manipulation, and against escalating conflicts through emotions or misinformation. It also requests public cooperation in verifying information before sharing, relying on official sources, and maintaining unity to support peaceful approaches, which are fundamental to border and regional stability overall.
