Bangkok: The State Railway of Thailand (SRT) has expressed its condolences over the recent crane collapse incident that resulted in multiple fatalities and injuries.
According to Thai News Agency, the SRT has committed to providing care and compensation to those affected by the tragedy, which occurred on January 14, 2026. The organization confirmed that it will implement enhanced safety measures to prevent such incidents in the future.
The crane collapse, which led to the loss of 30 lives including 29 passengers and one employee of the contracting company, has prompted the SRT to extend its sympathies to the families of the deceased and assure them of its full support. The SRT reported that the train involved in the accident had 161 people on board, comprising 157 passengers and 4 contracting company employees.
The incident also left 69 individuals injured. Of these, 52 have been discharged, while 17 continue to receive medical treatment. The SRT is actively monitoring the recovery of those injured and ensuring that they receive necessary medical care.
In terms of financial assistance, the SRT has confirmed its readiness to support the families of the deceased. Each family has received initial compensation totaling 1,690,000 baht, which includes contributions from the SRT, Thipya Insurance Public Company Limited, and Italian-Thai Development Public Company Limited. Additional financial aid from government agencies and partner networks is being coordinated to ensure comprehensive support.
For the injured, the SRT has provided compensation and is facilitating their ongoing medical treatment. Affected individuals whose property was damaged or lost can submit claims for compensation consideration.
As part of safety measures, the SRT has temporarily rerouted the Ubon Ratchathani line and is offering refunds to passengers who wish to cancel their travel plans. The organization has also closed the affected area, coordinating with relevant agencies to dismantle the structure safely.
The SRT is conducting a thorough review of the incident to enhance safety measures across its projects. The safety of passengers, employees, and the public remains a top priority, and the SRT is committed to preventing similar incidents.
