Anutin Asserts Bhumjaithai Party’s Stance on Constitutional Amendments

Bangkok: Anutin Charnvirakul reiterated that Bhumjaithai Party will not touch Chapters 1 and 2 of the Constitution or any chapter concerning the King's prerogatives. As for other parties, it depends on whether they have any conditions or not.

According to Thai News Agency, Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul commented on whether he agreed with Deputy Prime Minister Bowornsak Uwanno's suggestion that political parties arguing that constitutional amendments don't need to focus on Chapters 1 and 2, but should instead specify the conditions under which amendments are required, stating that since the Bhumjaithai Party doesn't intend to touch Chapters 1 and 2, there's no need for further explanation.

Regarding the concern that some parties don't want the lockdown to be imposed, Mr. Anutin retorted by asking if those parties were referring to other parties, before responding, "That's up to them."

When asked whether Mr. Bowornsak's statement that prohibiting touching only Chapters 1 and 2 was insufficient because the issue of royal prerogatives is stipulated in other parts of the Constitution meant that the Bhumjaithai Party agreed, Mr. Anutin reiterated that the Bhumjaithai Party would not touch Chapters 1 and 2, or the royal prerogatives. He stated this clearly from the time the party was founded, and therefore there was no need for further clarification.
