Bangkok: The Pheu Thai Party has addressed the recent issuance of an arrest warrant for a Kalasin Provincial Council member allegedly linked to a gambling website, emphasizing its dedication to fairness and transparency. The council member in question had already resigned from the party, and the party has stated it will neither ignore nor protect anyone involved in such activities.
According to Thai News Agency, the Pheu Thai Party released a statement to clarify the situation concerning Mr. Pathanun Chandorn, a member of the Kalasin Provincial Administrative Organization Council, who is implicated in a gambling-related case. The party sought to correct any misleading connections and provided a detailed account of the situation.
Firstly, the Pheu Thai Party confirmed that Mr. Chandorn was a legitimate member of the party. His membership was secured through a process that adhered to principles of openness and legality. The party assessed his qualifications based on the facts available at the time of his application. As there were no disqualifying characteristics according to the law and party regulations, and he had self-certified, he was eligible to join the party.
Secondly, the party addressed concerns about images showing Mr. Chandorn wearing Pheu Thai Party symbols during his campaign for the Provincial Administrative Organization Council. It clarified that members are allowed to do so, as he was a genuine party member at the time. However, his candidacy was in a personal capacity, not as an official party representative.
Thirdly, the Pheu Thai Party confirmed that Mr. Chandorn had resigned from the party without providing a reason and is no longer affiliated with them.
Lastly, the party reaffirmed its commitment to integrity, transparency, and accountability for political office holders. It stated that if any current party member is involved in such cases, a thorough investigation will be conducted to ensure public clarity.
