Bangkok: Thammasat University student activists have intensified their efforts by storming the Election Commission, insisting on a recount and threatening that if their demands remain unmet, the entire commission should resign.
According to Thai News Agency, a coalition from the Thammasat University and Assembly Alliance, accompanied by students, delivered a formal letter to the Election Commission (EC) at the Government Complex in Chaeng Wattana. The letter demanded updates on the investigation into election-related complaints and called for a nationwide recount to enhance transparency and restore public confidence in the electoral process.
The activists warned that failure by the Election Commission to address their demands would lead to an escalation of protests. They emphasized that if the issues persist, the commission must accept responsibility by resigning collectively.
In response to the protest, security measures have been heightened. Police officers from Metropolitan Police Division 2 have been deployed, with one company maintaining order around the building and another on standby at Thung Song Hong Police Station.
