Metropolitan Waterworks Authority Implements Energy Saving Measures Amid Middle East Conflict

Bangkok: The Metropolitan Waterworks Authority (MWA) has initiated energy-saving measures in response to a Cabinet resolution aimed at mitigating the impact of the ongoing conflict in the Middle East. Ms. Suwara Tawichsri, the Governor of the MWA, outlined these measures, which include setting air conditioning temperatures between 26-27 degrees Celsius and switching them off at least 30 minutes before the workday ends. Employees are encouraged to dress appropriately for the weather, forgoing suits and ties on ordinary workdays unless attending formal events. The measures also involve turning off lights and computer screens during lunch breaks, utilizing energy-saving equipment, and advocating for the use of electronic documents.

According to Thai News Agency, the MWA is also encouraging the use of stairs over elevators and managing vehicle usage more efficiently by promoting carpooling and ensuring engines are turned off when parked. The organization is contemplating a work-from-home model to further reduce energy consumption, provided it does not affect public services. Additionally, the MWA plans to delay overseas study trips as part of its energy conservation strategy.

The MWA's efforts to become more energy-efficient extend to installing rooftop solar power generation systems at various facilities, including office buildings, pumping stations, and water treatment plants. The authority is also reaching out to the public to engage in energy conservation through its MWA onMobile application, which offers a range of digital water services around the clock. These services include checking water usage, paying water bills, and identifying areas with low water pressure or no supply. The MWA e-Bill Service further supports sustainability by providing electronic water bills and receipts, thereby reducing paper consumption.
