Kunming: Thai teams showcased their science and technology innovations at the regional 1st Lancang-Mekong Science and Technology Innovation Competition held in Kunming, Yunnan Province, southwest China. The event, which took place from March 17-18, saw participation from seven Thai institutions and companies, including Thammasat University and Siam Technology College, presenting their scientific and technological achievements.

According to Thai News Agency, the competition was themed "Mobilizing Lancang-Mekong Intellectuals to Build a Shared Future" and focused on areas such as biopharmaceuticals, modern agriculture, information technology, and sustainable green development. The final round featured 60 teams from six countries in the region, each presenting innovative technological projects and exploring development approaches.

Thai projects addressed key needs in Southeast Asian countries, such as disaster relief, environmental protection, AI-powered governance, and healthcare. Notable projects included drones with bionic robotic arms for fire victim assistance, sunscreen developed from coffee grounds extract, and the Mekong River Basin AI-powered Smart Governance Center.

The "AThenaAi" project, which offers digital infrastructure for precision preventive medicine, won the outstanding award in the entrepreneurial company category. Additionally, the "GreenLinkThailand" project, a collaboration between Thailand and China, secured first prize in the competition.

The GreenLink Thailand project utilizes aquatic biological resources from Yunnan Province and Thailand's bio-production system to create a "Yunnan raw materials + Thai processing + ASEAN market" model. This initiative aims to prepare high-performance biomaterials and support the development of green industries in the region.
