Tehran: Israel is proceeding with attacks on the Iranian capital. Israel has launched a new round of attacks on Tehran, Iran, while the Iranian president stated that the US leader's threats to attack Iranian power plants indicate that the United States is desperate.
According to Thai News Agency, late Saturday night, several explosions were reported in areas east and north of Tehran. The Israeli military confirmed that it had launched a series of airstrikes against Iranian regime infrastructure targets. Mehrabad Airport was attacked, resulting in smoke and fire engulfing the civilian and military airfields. The Israeli military stated that it targeted the main command center of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), which is responsible for security in the capital. Targets included IRGC units responsible for suppressing protests within the country, as well as Imam Hossein University, an institution linked to the IRGC and under US sanctions, which was also bombed.
While Iran continues to retaliate with missile strikes against Israel, over the past 24 hours, Iranian missiles have hit areas in southern Israel, particularly the cities of Arad and Dimona, near a nuclear research facility. One person, a man in his 60s, was killed by shrapnel, and over 160 people were injured, 12 seriously, with the rest suffering minor injuries or panic. Several residential buildings sustained significant damage. Iran stated that the attacks were in retaliation for the attack on Iran's Natanz nuclear facility on Saturday. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu visited the scene and described the absence of fatalities in Arad as a miracle, while urging citizens to strictly follow shelter instructions.
Iranian President Masoud Pesekyan stated that the US threat to destroy Iran's power plants and civilian infrastructure reflects the desperation of the Donald Trump administration in its inability to act against the will of the Iranian nation. He emphasized that threats and terrorism will only further unite Iran. Pesekyan affirmed that the Strait of Hormuz remains open to everyone except those who violate Iranian territory, consistent with the stance of Iran's representative to the International Maritime Organization (IMO), who stated that enemy vessels, meaning the US and Israel, will not be allowed through. Meanwhile, the IRGC issued a stronger statement, saying that if Trump carries out his threat to attack the power plants, Iran will completely close the Strait of Hormuz and will not reopen it until the destroyed power plants are fully rebuilt-a condition virtually impossible in the short term.
