Thailand Launches B20 Diesel to Lower Logistics Costs and Support Palm Farmers

Thailand: Thailand has officially launched the sale of B20 diesel, a strategic move by the government to lower industrial transport costs and bolster domestic palm oil prices. By integrating a 20% palm oil-based biodiesel blend, the initiative aims to reduce the overhead for logistics providers and manufacturers, ultimately easing the pressure to raise consumer goods prices.

According to Thai News Agency, the Fuel Fund Management Committee has priced B20 approximately 5 baht per liter cheaper than standard B7 diesel. Assistant Minister to the Prime Minister's Office, Rachada Dhnadirek, noted that major retailers including Bangchak and OR have already begun distribution at key depots, with Shell expected to follow in early April.

Beyond immediate cost savings, the policy serves as a long-term stabilizer for the agricultural sector. By increasing domestic demand for crude palm oil, the government aims to secure steady income for Thai farmers and reduce the nation's reliance on energy imports, strengthening overall national energy security.
