Thailand and Myanmar to Convene Urgent Talks on PM2.5 Haze Crisis

Yangon: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sihasak Phuangketkeow is set to meet with Myanmar's top leadership today to address the intensifying PM2.5 transboundary haze as a matter of regional urgency. Sihasak, currently on an official visit to Myanmar from April 21-22, emphasized that the air pollution crisis is a critical concern requiring a trilateral response between Thailand, Myanmar, and Laos.

According to Thai News Agency, the Foreign Minister is scheduled to pay a courtesy call to President Min Aung Hlaing at the Presidential Palace following the President's formal assumption of office earlier this month. The agenda will prioritize immediate collaborative measures to combat the seasonal haze that has plagued the region.

The Thai delegation's itinerary also includes meetings between Thai private sector representatives and Myanmar's Vice President Nyo Saw. Further diplomatic discussions are scheduled with Than Swe, a member of the Union Advisory Council, and Foreign Minister Tin Maung Swe.

Sihasak and his delegation are expected to conclude the mission and return to Thailand late Wednesday evening.
