57-Year-Old Woman’s Car Mishap Injures Five Tourists in Pattaya

Pattaya: A 57-year-old woman accidentally left her car in reverse gear, leading to a chain reaction that injured five unsuspecting tourists in front of a traditional Thai massage shop near the Made in Thailand Market on Pattaya Second Road, Nong Prue Subdistrict, Bang Lamung District, Chonburi Province.

According to Thai News Agency, the incident occurred when the woman, identified as Ms. Phanee, a beach umbrella and chair rental business owner in Pattaya, mistakenly left her car in reverse. The white sedan, found with rear-end damage and an open driver's side door twisted against the front wheel arch, had reversed into a luggage store after striking the tourists, who were immediately taken to the hospital.

Ms. Phanee explained to the police that she had a minor collision with a motorcycle shortly before the accident, about 3-4 meters away. While waiting for insurance to arrive, she attempted to park on the side of the road, believing the gear was set correctly with the handbrake engaged. The mishap occurred as she was retrieving her driver's license from the car. She expressed regret, stressing that the incident was unintentional and pledged to take full responsibility for the injured tourists.

Pattaya City Police are investigating the accident, collecting evidence from CCTV, and preparing to file charges against Ms. Phanee.
