Bangkok: The government is advancing its comprehensive crackdown on drug trafficking, integrating various sectors and strengthening concrete transnational cooperation. Ms. Ratchada Thanadirek, spokesperson for the Prime Minister's Office, revealed that addressing the drug problem has become an urgent agenda item under Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul. The strategy includes prevention, suppression, treatment, and rehabilitation, alongside strict law enforcement. The public is also encouraged to participate by monitoring and reporting information via the Narcotics Suppression Bureau hotline 1386.
According to Thai News Agency, the efforts during the first six months of fiscal year 2026 show tangible progress, with over 150,000 drug cases prosecuted. Authorities seized more than 796 million methamphetamine pills and approximately 25 tons of crystal methamphetamine. Additionally, 139 major drug trafficking networks were dismantled, with assets worth over 9,156 million baht seized and frozen.
Further, the government prioritizes addressing the social aspect of drug abuse, having brought over 79,000 drug users into treatment and offering rehabilitation programs for more than 4.5 million youths nationwide. These initiatives aim to prevent long-term involvement in the drug cycle. Efforts to combat transnational drug trafficking have been upgraded through proactive intelligence gathering and enhanced international cooperation. Notably, Thai-Lao cooperation has led to the arrest of over 40 targeted suspects, showcasing the success of drug interdiction and suppression along the border.
