Samut sakhon: "Supamas" revealed that the governor of Samut Sakhon has ordered a temporary halt to operations at the problematic canned fish factory. Supamas Isarabhakdi, Minister attached to the Prime Minister's Office, disclosed the developments following an inspection of the factory located in Kalong Subdistrict, Mueang Samut Sakhon District. The inspection was carried out on May 6th, in collaboration with relevant agencies within Samut Sakhon Province.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Amnat Charoensri, the Governor of Samut Sakhon Province, reported that the Samut Sakhon Provincial Industry Office found the factory's wastewater treatment system did not comply with necessary standards. As a result, the factory has been ordered to temporarily cease operations. This pause is to allow the company to upgrade its facilities to meet Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) for food production.
Furthermore, the company faces allegations of using fish other than mackerel, as indicated on the product labels, which is a violation of the Food Act B.E. 2522 (1979). This act is considered food counterfeiting and is punishable by imprisonment ranging from 6 months to 10 years, alongside a fine between 5,000 and 100,000 baht. Additionally, incorrect labeling that misleads consumers is subject to a fine not exceeding 30,000 baht. The business will undergo another inspection once improvements are made to ensure compliance with quality standards before resuming operations.
Consumers who have encountered issues from purchasing these products are encouraged to file complaints through the OCPB hotline 1166, the OCPB Connect application, the ocpb.go.th website, or the Damrongtham Center at provincial halls across the country. Complaints specifically concerning food and drugs can be directed to the FDA hotline 1556.
