Bangkok: The Prime Minister chaired a meeting of government and private sector representatives to combat corruption. The Prime Minister held a meeting with government and private sector representatives to discuss "combating corruption" after the Joint Standing Committee on Commerce, Industry and Banking (JSCCIB) expressed concerns about the transparency of the government system.
According to Thai News Agency, Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul chaired the first meeting of the Public-Private Sector Cooperation Integration Meeting to Enhance the Prevention and Suppression of Corruption in 2026. Representatives from the Joint Committee of the Three Private Sector Institutions (JCC), government agencies, and independent organizations also attended the meeting.
The Prime Minister reiterated that the government is seriously committed to addressing structural corruption. Most recently, he ordered the establishment of a coordinating committee for combating corruption and encouraged various agencies to utilize technology to enhance efficiency and transparency in their work. He also pledged to do everything possible to ensure agencies disclose their operational data to the public, so that citizens and organizations can operate transparently, are accountable, and free from corruption.
He also said that he had complained to the Secretary-General of the National Anti-Corruption Commission about how a corruption poll could be allowed to be released. He added that if they believe any civil servant, government agency, minister, or prime minister is corrupt, there's no need for a "Corruption Perceptions Index." He argued that this is a matter of law that must be proven with documentary evidence, because criminals leave traces. He believes that someone will provide information that leads to an investigation into the source of the corruption, rather than relying solely on questioning.
