Yala: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sihasak Phuangketkaew, has emphasized the need for cooperation with Malaysia to address the multifaceted insurgency issues in southern Thailand. Speaking at a press conference following meetings with the Southern Border Provinces Administrative Center (SBPAC) and a network of businesspeople in Yala Province, Sihasak highlighted the importance of integrating central government policies with local initiatives to tackle the complex challenges in the region.
According to Thai News Agency, Sihasak underscored that the issues in southern Thailand encompass various dimensions, including security, social development, justice, and foreign affairs. He stressed that resolving these problems necessitates a collaborative approach involving multiple agencies, with the SBPAC acting as the central hub. Sihasak called for more frequent meetings to ensure a unified policy direction and to drive integrated efforts across the region.
Sihasak also pointed out the critical role of economic development in achieving security and prosperity in the southern border provinces. He emphasized the need for infrastructure and port projects to connect these provinces with neighboring countries, particularly Malaysia, which is keen on developing its rail system. Sihasak plans to present the insights gained from his visit to the government, aiming for a cohesive strategy to foster regional connectivity and growth.
Furthermore, Sihasak mentioned that the Special Committee of Government Representatives, chaired by him and assigned by the Prime Minister, will oversee strategies and policies involving multiple ministries. He highlighted the necessity of a strategic and integrated approach to open up more opportunities and ensure coordination among various governmental agencies. This includes supporting peace negotiations led by Mr. Thanat Suwannanon, aimed at fostering lasting peace in the southern border provinces.
