Khon kaen: Khon Kaen Zoo has announced the opening of public voting for selecting one of the five proposed names for their newest addition, a baby pygmy hippo. This initiative offers zoo visitors and the general public an opportunity to participate in naming the young hippo, encouraging engagement and interest in the zoo's conservation efforts. According to Thai News Agency, the zoo has not disclosed the specific names in contention but emphasizes the importance of involving the public in such activities to raise awareness about the species and its conservation status. The pygmy hippo is a species known for its reclusive nature and is considered vulnerable in the wild. In other news, officials have begun the installation of a warning siren in the Huai Kha Khaeng Wildlife Sanctuary located in Uthai Thani Province. This measure aims to alert communities about the movement of wild elephants in the area, ensuring the safety of both the animals and local residents. Additionally, a giant, 3-meter-long python was seen consuming a cat, capturing the attention of the local community. Sightings of large snakes are not uncommon in the region, highlighting the ongoing interaction between wildlife and human habitats.
