Bangkok: The government is set to implement a new salary structure for Ministry of Public Health personnel starting October 1, 2026, alongside a proposal to create 93,000 new positions aimed at enhancing employment capacity in the sector. The initiative reflects the government's commitment to improving the quality of life for public health workers by restructuring wages.
According to Thai News Agency, Ms. Lalida Periswiwatana, Deputy Spokesperson for the Prime Minister's Office, emphasized the government's focus on enhancing job security and living standards for public sector personnel, particularly those in healthcare, who play a vital role in maintaining the nation's health. The directive comes from Mr. Phatthana Phromphat, Minister of Public Health, who has prioritized the urgent need to improve conditions for healthcare workers at all levels.
The Ministry of Public Health is advancing with a revised wage scale for employees and temporary workers, following approval from the Ministry of Finance and the Public Health Employees Management Committee. The changes include measures to support those impacted by the restructuring. Under the new plan, the minimum wage for both permanent and temporary employees will be set at 10,520 baht per month, or approximately 457 baht for 23 working days, exceeding the current minimum wage. This adjustment will be implemented nationwide from October 1, 2026, to allow healthcare facilities sufficient time to prepare for budgetary and personnel management changes.
Ms. Lalida highlighted that this wage restructuring aligns with Minister Phatthana Phromphat's policy to elevate the standards for public health personnel, focusing on income, welfare, and career progression to foster motivation and retain skilled professionals within the public health system.
Additionally, the Office of the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Public Health has proposed an increase in employment quotas, requesting approval from the Ministry of Finance for 93,000 additional positions. This expansion aims to accommodate scholarship students and offer temporary daily wage workers the opportunity for stable employment. The proposal is currently under review by the Ministry of Finance.
Minister Pattana Promphat reiterated the necessity for all agencies under his ministry to continue enhancing the public health system while ensuring the welfare of their personnel. This dual approach is intended to fortify the nation's health infrastructure and elevate the populace's quality of life over the long term.
