Government Delighted as Thai Tourism Thrives with 14.5 Million Foreign Tourists Generating Over 700 Billion Baht in Revenue

Bangkok: The government is pleased that the number of foreign tourists visiting Thailand remains strong, generating over 700 billion baht in revenue. It revealed that in May 2026, the number of foreign tourists increased by 3.54 percent, generating over 100 billion baht in revenue.

According to Thai News Agency, Ms. Ploytalay Laksmisangchan, Deputy Spokesperson for the Prime Minister's Office, revealed that from May 1st to 31st, 2026, Thailand received 2.35 million foreign tourists, representing a 3.54% increase compared to the same period last year. This generated revenue of 108 billion baht, a 12.77% increase compared to the same period last year. The top five countries of origin for foreign tourists visiting Thailand were Malaysia, China, India, Russia, and Singapore, respectively.

From January 1st to June 7th, 2026, the cumulative revenue from international tourist arrivals to Thailand reached 701,358 million baht, from a total of 14,515,978 visitors. The top five countries from which tourists entered Thailand were China (2,386,714), Malaysia (1,839,151), India (1,103,945), Russia (964,670), and South Korea (552,621). This week, a slight increase in international tourist arrivals is expected as several tourist markets return to normal travel trends.

'Due to the impact of tensions in the Middle East, air and transportation costs have increased significantly, affecting travel behavior. There is a tendency to reduce long-distance travel and control expenses more. In addition to revenue from international tourists, the government aims to boost Thailand's tourism industry by promoting nearby, easily accessible destinations, while restructuring Thai tourism to align with the modern world's emphasis on sustainability, energy efficiency, and experiential value,' Ms. Ploytalee said.
