Toronto: Ante Budimir came on as a super-sub, scoring the winning goal as Croatia narrowly defeated Panama, sending them home from the 2026 World Cup.

According to Thai News Agency, in the first round of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Group L, at Toronto Stadium in Canada, Croatia faced Panama, with both teams having lost their opening games. The match took place on Tuesday, June 23rd, and was crucial for both teams' hopes of advancing in the tournament.

Both teams played cautiously in the first half, which ended without any goals. However, the dynamics changed in the second half when the "Checkered Ones" started to attack with more intensity. Croatia took the lead in the 54th minute. Josip Stanisic delivered a precise cross from the right, and Ante Budimir, the tall substitute striker, made a decisive run to score the only goal of the match.
