Government and Opposition Ready to Convene Extraordinary Session for 400 Billion Baht Loan Decree

Bangkok: "Koravee" affirms that both the government and the opposition are ready to cooperate in convening an extraordinary parliamentary session to discuss the 400 billion baht loan decree. This depends on the Cabinet's decision on whether to wait for the full court ruling. If a delay is necessary, consideration might be in August; if urgent, it could be convened at the end of July.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Koravee Prisnanantakul, MP for Ang Thong and chairman of the government coalition's coordinating committee (government whip), commented on the possibility of convening an extraordinary parliamentary session to urgently consider and approve the 400 billion baht loan under the Emergency Decree. He stated that both the opposition and the government have been discussing this matter continuously among their respective whips. He affirmed that they are not blocking scrutiny and that if it is feasible and necessary within the timeframe, the parliament will not object.

Mr. Koravee stated that, based on the Constitutional Court's ruling, they are still awaiting the official full ruling from the Constitutional Court to be sent to Parliament. This falls under the Cabinet's authority to consider whether waiting until the next parliamentary session to consider the matter is too slow. If the Cabinet deems it too slow, they can request the Speaker of the House of Representatives to convene an extraordinary session. 'It needs to be clarified that convening an extraordinary session is not a matter for Parliament, but for the Cabinet to consider whether it is necessary. We are prepared to wait within the timeframe. If the ruling arrives quickly, we can convene it by the end of July. If we have to wait for the full Constitutional Court ruling, we may have to consider it in August. Both the opposition and the government are willing to cooperate,' Mr. Koravee said.
