Prime Minister Announces Arrests in Local Government Exam Corruption Scandal

Bangkok: The Prime Minister joined the press conference announcing the arrest of three major figures in the local government exam corruption scandal! He vowed to expand the investigation and dismantle the entire operation without exception. Today (July 15, 2026), at the Crime Suppression Division headquarters, Central Investigation Bureau (CIB), Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul visited the Crime Suppression Division and participated in a press conference regarding the 2025 local government civil service examination corruption case.

According to Thai News Agency, Ms. Lalida Periswiwatana, Deputy Spokesperson for the Prime Minister's Office, revealed that the Prime Minister participated in the press conference regarding the 2025 local government civil service examination corruption case. The investigation and arrest of three suspects, namely: 1. Mr. Pichit (surname withheld), 2. Mr. Win (surname withheld), and 3. Ms. Sataporn (surname withheld), were completed. They are charged with conspiracy, forming a criminal gang, jointly causing damage, destruction, concealment, removal, or rendering useless or ineffective any will or document belonging to another person in a manner likely to cause harm to that person or the public, jointly forging official documents, and jointly and fraudulently or deceptively introducing into a computer system distorted or falsified computer data, whether in whole or in part, or false computer data in a manner likely to cause harm to the public, and jointly disclosing confidential information.

The Prime Minister, in his capacity as head of government and Minister of Interior, expressed his gratitude to all agencies for their cooperation in investigating the case. He acknowledged this outrageous act and affirmed his commitment to the investigation. He stated that without the cooperation of everyone, the public would have harbored doubts about this case. His contributions have revealed a network of corrupt individuals involved in this scheme. He reiterated his previous assurances that the public should have confidence in the fair and impartial handling of this case, based on evidence and strictly adhering to legal procedures. He noted the swift action taken in both legal proceedings and disciplinary actions. The legal process is proceeding according to established procedures, with clear evidence required.

The Prime Minister further stated that the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior had informed him that on July 23, 2026, the matter will be brought before the Central Committee for Local Government Employee Examinations (CGE) to consider guidelines for handling the examination fraud case, including reviewing the examination results and related procedures. This falls under the committee's legal authority, and those involved in the wrongdoing will face legal proceedings.

"This case requires further investigation; it's not just this one. We must continue to pursue it. Once we catch the culprits, we will expand the scope of the investigation. Anyone else involved will be prosecuted; there will be no exceptions. And I believe that all officials will not let the guilty go unpunished," the Prime Minister said.
