Bangkok: The inbound lanes of Prachathipok Road, stretching from Wongwian Yai towards Ban Khaek Intersection, are set to reopen to traffic on July 19th, as announced by the Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand (MRTA). This reopening will commence at 6:00 AM and the lanes will be operational 24 hours a day, providing much-needed relief for commuters in the area.
According to Thai News Agency, the reopening comes after a significant water seepage incident occurred in the MRT tunnel near Wongwian Yai intersection, part of the Purple Line project. The incident, which took place on July 8, 2026, has seen marked improvements as contractors carried out intensive soil improvement measures to a depth of 37 meters to halt groundwater seepage into the tunnel. Continuous monitoring within a 30-meter radius showed no significant structural movement, and inspections confirmed the safety of roads in the vicinity.
In light of these developments, the MRTA has outlined alternative routes for outbound road users heading towards Wongwian Yai, advising travel via Phra Pok Klao Bridge and Isaraphap Road. Commuters are encouraged to utilize these routes to minimize inconvenience and avoid areas affected by construction noise.
