Anutin Secures Major Investment from Chinese Tech Giants Worth 70 Billion Baht

Bangkok: Anutin Charnvirakul expressed satisfaction with the successful visit to China, revealing that four major tech companies are ready to invest over 70 billion baht in Thailand, creating tens of thousands of jobs. He highlighted the "Thailand FastPass" initiative to attract global manufacturing bases, upgrade Thai workforce skills, and unlock significant investment opportunities. He affirmed Thailand's readiness to support the investment, adjusting conditions to meet investors' needs, with the goal of positioning Thailand as a regional hub for future technology manufacturing.

According to Thai News Agency, at 3:45 PM today, local time in the People's Republic of China, Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul gave an interview while traveling by Royal Thai Air Force aircraft from Chengdu to Beijing. He revealed the success following discussions between the Thai delegation and executives of four major Chinese technology companies on July 18th. He stated that the Chinese investors, particularly in high-tech industries, have great confidence in choosing Thailand as a production base for their target products and for developing new innovations.

Mr. Anutin stated that meetings with senior executives of four leading companies confirmed plans to invest over 70 billion baht in Thailand this year. The focus will be on precision industries and advanced technology, such as optical transceivers to support data center businesses, semiconductors and microchips for high-speed communications, and the continued expansion of production capacity in the electric vehicle (EV) sector.

Mr. Anutin stated that this massive investment is expected to create tens of thousands of new jobs for Thai people. The government prioritizes upskilling, where Thai workers will receive direct knowledge and modern technology transfer from these leading companies to add long-term value to Thai industries. The Prime Minister also mentioned that a key reason why Chinese investors choose Thailand as a top choice is their confidence in the infrastructure, including transportation and utilities, which facilitates the production of various components outside of China, in order to address geopolitical challenges.

When asked how the government would support the continuation of these initiatives, the Prime Minister stated that the government had provided assurance through the BOI's "Thailand FastPass" policy, a one-stop service to expedite the approval and licensing processes. "Investors appreciate the convenience and transparency, especially the elimination of issues such as bribery or kickbacks, as in the past. They also don't need to contact multiple agencies, as the BOI will coordinate and remove all obstacles in a single point," Mr. Anutin said.

When asked whether Thai businesspeople investing in China had any proposals to share with the Prime Minister for discussion with the Chinese Prime Minister tomorrow (July 20), Mr. Anutin stated that most Thai businesses operating in China are in the agricultural, food, power plant, and service sectors, such as hotel chains. He added that meetings with dozens of executives and business owners in China confirmed that they have received excellent facilitation from the Chinese government. The Prime Minister further stated that the government is ready to support and adjust conditions to meet the needs of investors in order to fully establish Thailand as a regional hub for future technology production.
