Bangkok: Heavy rains lashed Mae Hong Son, causing flash floods that inundated "Ban Huai Suea Thao," a famous Karen long-necked tourist village. Houses, shops, and roads were damaged. A 10-kilometer stretch of road leading to Ban Mae Suai Oo was cut off.
According to Thai News Agency, around 8 PM last night, heavy rain fell continuously for over an hour in Pha Bong Subdistrict, Mueang District, Mae Hong Son Province. This resulted in flash floods from the mountains inundating Huai Suea Thao village, a famous Karen long-necked tourist village in the province.
Villagers recorded footage of a flash flood surging across a newly built concrete bridge north of the village. This bridge crosses a stream, connecting Ban Huai Suea Thao to Ban Mae Suai Oo, a border village. The massive volume of water changed course, flooding the village road. The road and souvenir shops in the village were damaged by the floodwaters. Dozens of houses along the road were also flooded, causing significant hardship for the villagers.
This morning, Mr. Amorn Sritrakul, the mayor of Phabong Subdistrict Administrative Organization, along with officials and water trucks, mobilized to assist residents of Huai Suea Thao village in restoring and cleaning the roads and shops within the village that were affected by the flash flood.
Additionally, it was found that the road from Ban Huai Suea Thao to Ban Mae Suai U, a distance of approximately 10 kilometers, was cut off by landslides and fallen trees after heavy rain, making it impassable for cars. Motorcycles could still pass, but with difficulty. In some places, fallen trees blocked the road, requiring people to help move them across.
