Tourists Warned as Landslide Blocks Key Road in Mae Hong Son

Mae hong son: The road between Ban Mae Sakid and Ban Nam Piang Din in Mae Hong Son province has been rendered impassable due to a significant landslide, which has blocked the path with soil, rocks, and trees. This disruption has led to authorities warning tourists to avoid this route, primarily used to reach the Long Neck Karen village of Huai Pu Kaeng, and to opt for the boat route instead.

According to Thai News Agency, the incident was first reported on the "365 Days in Mae Hong Son" Facebook page, highlighting that the rural highway MS.3018, which connects Ban Mae Sakid and Ban Nam Piang Din in Pha Bong Subdistrict, Mueang District, was blocked just before the checkpoint. The blockage has halted all vehicular traffic, urging tourists to seek alternative methods of reaching the popular destination of Huai Pu Kaeng.

The landslide's effects have extended beyond tourism, affecting local communities by cutting off access to five border villages: Ban Huai Kaeo Lang, Ban Huai Kaeo Bon, Ban Huai Pu Kaeng, Ban Nam Phiang Din, and Ban Huai Khi. Residents who rely on the Huai Ton Nun road are now unable to enter the city, further exacerbating the situation.

For those intent on visiting the Long Neck Karen village of Ban Huai Pu Kaeng, the only viable option remains the boat route. Visitors are advised to board at Ban Huai Duea, located in Pha Bong Subdistrict, Mueang District, ensuring that they can still experience the cultural richness of the area despite the road closure.
