Lampang: A mother and her blind calf have been joyfully reunited after being separated for over four years. According to Thai News Agency, this touching reunion took place at the National Elephant Conservation Center in Hang Chat District, Lampang Province. The event, named "1,460 Days of Waiting...Beautiful Mother and Sweet-natured Child Fan Meet 69," saw over 30 fans and foster mothers gather to celebrate the heartfelt moment.
The young elephant, Phang Saenwan, now over 7 years old, lost her eyesight when she accidentally came into contact with agricultural chemicals as a calf. Despite efforts to treat her eyes, the damage was irreversible, leading to her transfer to the conservation center. The reunion with her mother, Mae Saensuay, was marked by the calf presenting a basket of jasmine flowers as a gesture of affection. The heartwarming scene unfolded as the mother and calf recognized each other through scent and sound, showcasing the elephants' remarkable ability to bond despite years of separation.
Veterinarian Dr. Warangkana Langkarapin, head of the elephant hospital at the center, shared insights into the reunion. Phang Saenwan, weighing approximately 1,600 kilograms, is in good health, while her mother weighs around 2,800 kilograms. The reunion underscored the elephants' unique ability to recognize family through scent and voice, allowing the pair to reconnect quickly despite the years apart. The event highlighted the enduring bond between the mother and her calf, bringing joy to all those present.
