Narathiwat: Imam Al-Huda has asserted that Islam does not advocate the destruction of life or property, emphasizing that education and the correct application of religious principles are essential solutions for the ongoing conflict in the southern border provinces. Youth groups have also called for an end to the dissemination of violent news.
According to Thai News Agency, Lieutenant General Prasert Muadchiangka, Director of the Coordination Center for Operations 5, Internal Security Operations Command (ISOC 5), led a delegation of editors and media representatives to visit a Marine Ranger unit of the Royal Thai Navy in Narathiwat Province. The visit included a briefing on the situation and operations in the area by the Marine Corps rangers, followed by a discussion session. Participants included Mr. Muhammad Sanhman, the Imam of Al-Huda Mosque, as well as Ms. Paweekorn Nuaksorn and Ms. Mayslalin Sapwatcharaphokin from the Royal Thai Navy's "United Thai Hearts" group.
During his address, Imam Al-Huda spoke about the violence in the three southern border provinces, stating that neither the local population nor the global community desires such conflict. As a religious leader and educator, he emphasized the importance of religious leadership in transforming perspectives through religious teachings. He highlighted that Islam forbids the destruction of life and property, advocating instead for education to bring about change. Imam Al-Huda noted that perpetrators often lack education or a proper understanding of religious principles, stressing the need for educational initiatives to create a safer environment and ensure children grow up with a true understanding of Islamic teachings.
He also discussed the implementation of the Hukum Pakat, or the Nine Virtues of the Village Constitution, as a positive development. He expressed optimism that if these virtues are implemented across all areas, rather than being mere signage in mosques, it could significantly improve the current situation. Stressing the universal desire for happiness, he remarked on the importance of fostering a society where everyone can live joyfully, referencing Thailand's reputation as the "Land of Smiles." He quoted His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej, who championed unity and happiness among the Thai people, irrespective of race or religion.
Ms. Paweekorn Nuaksorn, representing the "Youth United Thailand" group, commented on the positive relationship between the community and government officials, particularly the military. She shared an instance where military personnel ensured their safety during a recent arson attack, demonstrating the supportive role of the military in the region. Ms. Paweekorn acknowledged the challenge of misinformation, particularly from creator-led pages that distort news for profit. Along with her colleagues, she acts as a bridge between government officials and the public, promoting accurate information from credible sources like ISOC and the Royal Thai Armed Forces to counter misinformation, even if their reach is limited compared to creator-led pages.
