Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul to Approve New NSC Secretary-General

Bangkok: The Prime Minister is chairing a meeting of the National Security Council (NSC), and is expected to finalize the name of General Chaiyapruk Duangprapat as the new NSC Secretary-General. The meeting, which is the 6th of 2026, is being held at Government House at 10:00 AM today.

According to Thai News Agency, Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul is overseeing the session, with a key agenda item being the nomination of a successor to Mr. Chatchai Bangchawad. Mr. Bangchawad, the current Secretary-General, was recently transferred to the position of Permanent Secretary of the Prime Minister's Office by a Cabinet decision on August 25. In today's NSC meeting, the proposal to appoint General Chaiyapruk Duangprapat, currently Chief of Staff of the Royal Thai Army, as the new Secretary-General is expected to be approved. Once the NSC endorses General Chaiyapruk, the nomination will proceed to the Cabinet for final approval.
