Mae sai: The Mae Sai River in Chiang Rai has overflowed its banks, reaching a critical level. Low-lying areas in Mae Sai are warned to prepare.
According to Thai News Agency, at 1:00 PM, the water situation monitoring center reported that the water level in the Sai River at the Mae Sai Friendship Bridge No. 1 in Mae Sai District, Chiang Rai Province, had risen to a critical level, overflowing the banks by 0.01 meters. The water level reached 397.6 meters, the highest alert level (red alert), requiring low-lying areas and communities along the Sai River to exercise extra caution.
Officials have warned residents living in communities along the Mae Sai River, especially in low-lying areas, to move belongings to higher ground, prepare for potential flooding, and closely monitor official flood warnings.
Mr. Warayut Khombun stated that the latest situation regarding water levels in Mae Sai District shows a downward trend, with a large volume of water gradually flowing through the area towards Tha Khilek.
A site survey of the Mae Sai Complex and Maliwan Building revealed minor water seepage due to damage and explosions in the original flood barrier. However, officials have reinforced the barrier with sandbags and big bags to slow down the water seepage.
Currently, municipal officials, soldiers from the Taksin Task Force, the Pha Muang Command, and other relevant sectors have deployed excavators and heavy machinery to closely monitor the situation at high-risk areas. Overall, the situation is not yet alarming and is expected to return to normal if there is no further heavy rainfall.
